LÓA – A New Era of Icelandic Wool Craftsmanship Introducing LÓA, a new Icelandic wool fabric made from 100% Icelandic wool, blending tradition with modern craftsmanship. Our bird Lóa heralds a new beginning and warmer period, symbolism perfectly suited for the fabric. This natural wool fabric is specially designed for furniture that is intended for long-lasting and extensive use, but it also works beautifully for outerwear in fashion design. The LÓA collection is woven in the UK in collaboration with AW Hainsworth, a 240-year-old family-owned company that holds the royal warrant and is an official supplier to the British monarchy. Icelandic wool is renowned for its exceptional breathability and its ability to regulate temperature. It can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture, transporting heat and moisture away from the body, maintaining a comfortable temperature. Wool is also naturally fire-resistant, offering more protection than other fibers. LÓA is the perfect choice for those who value natural, sustainable products and lasting quality for furniture and fashion that combines quality, style, and nature.
Wool - Nature´s miracle fiber. Breathable and environmentally friendly Wool is naturally unique from sheep to sheep and each one has their own charm. For over a 1000 years, Icelandic weather has been a key factor in developing a protective wool, a natural shelter from tough conditions. Icelandic wool is divided into two main categories: Þel and Tog. The two-layer natural construction has remarkable insulation, breathability, and strength. Þel is the inner layer of the wool and has completely different properties than Tog. Tog is long glossy hair that is very strong, but Þel is fine, soft and matte. Þel keeps the sheep warm while Tog protects it from water. This wool property is not common among sheep in other countries, i.e. there is little difference between the two- layers. Þel of Icelandic wool is fine, soft, and irregularly crimped. The fibers don’t lie tightly together, giving the wool its natural loft. Þel traps a lot of air, provides excellent breathability, offers great insulation, and is light in weight. Tog wool is longer and coarser than Þel. It is smooth and water-resistant. Tog forms a protective layer around Þel, shielding the sheep from wind and weather. Tog fibers give Icelandic wool strength and structure.
